Litigation Associate

Flanagan, Barone & O’Brien, LLC (“FBO”) is a successful, growing firm which embraces diversity in seeking to build a strong team of professionals. FBO is currently seeking a Litigation Associate with 3 to 5 years of experience. The position provides the opportunity to work both independently and as part of our strong litigation team.

Responsibilities:

  • Handle all aspects of insurance defense matters (auto, general liability, construction, products liability and property damage matters), including discovery, court appearances, depositions/examinations under oath, expert issues, and client management

  • Legal research

  • Drafting pleadings, briefs, motions, discovery, required client reports

  • Render opinions on liability, damages and case value

  • Appear before courts and arbitrators/mediators

 Qualifications:

  • JD from an accredited law school

  • Admitted to practice law in New Jersey

  • 3+ years of defense litigation

  • Experience with insurance defense, general liability and construction litigation

  • Ability to integrate into a fast-paced, team-oriented environment

  • Excellent research skills

  • Exceptional writing and communication skills

  • Computer proficiency

  • Ability to maintain/enter billable time

  • Ability to prioritize assignments and case load

Candidate must be a motivated, self-starter who demonstrates a commitment to providing quality client service and adhere to work completion deadlines.

Candidate must be a member in good standing with the New Jersey Bar and be able to travel as required for trials, hearings, depositions, etc.

Our General Claims Legal Department is seeking an attorney with a minimum of 4 years of experience handling commercial coverage litigation. Additional experience with insurance defense work, principally related to auto accident and premises liability, is preferred.

Job Responsibilities

• Provide General Claims staff with legal advice regarding coverage and various claims questions

• Assist General Claims staff with regulatory matters, fraud investigations

• Supervise outside insurance defense litigation, coverage litigation and appellate work

• Develop and implement litigation strategy collaboratively with claims staff and outside defense counsel

• Advise General Claims staff on legal developments in case law, statutes and regulations

Job Requirements

• JD and admission to NJ Bar required

• 4-7 years of experience handling commercial coverage litigation and insurance defense work

• Must have exceptional verbal and written communication skills

• Must be decisive and well organized
